Estate Planning
We can help you provide for your loved ones by planning for the ultimate distribution
of your property through wills, trusts, gifts, and more advanced estate planning methods.
Elder Law
Whether you are a senior citizen or you are caring for your parents or other family members,
we can advise you on a broad range of issues including:
- Powers of attorney
- Contested guardianships
- Conservatorships
- Elder abuse restraining orders
- Medicaid planning
- Asset protection
- Estate recovery
Probate
We generally try to avoid probate, but if it becomes necessary to guide you through a court
proceeding, we will handle all the legal work associated with your case, including accountings and tax filings. We
will also assist you in the performance of your duties as the personal representative of the estate, and we will assure
the orderly transfer of the estate assets.
General Advice
If you are preparing to enter into a legal transaction or sign any kind of contract, we
are available to advise you of your rights and liabilities. Your transaction or contact might be as simple as the purchase
of a home or it may be as complicated as entering into a partnership or buying a business. Asking for legal advice is
a good way to avoid potentially serious trouble after the fact. We want you to get the best results possible.
While not limiting the scope of legal services offered, we do place emphasis on specific areas of legal practice in
order to develop better skills and knowledge in those areas. The details and nuances of the legal profession multiply
every day. It is no longer feasible for a lawyer to be an expert in all subjects. Therefore, particular matter may be
referred to another attorney qualified to obtain the best results for your situation.
Trust and Confidence
Our relationship must be based on trust and confidence. Legal work
is governed by the Rules of Professional Conduct of the Oregon State Bar and Oregon Law. I conduct my practice
in compliance with both. All of your information will be held strictly confidential.
Appointments
Please call to reserve a meeting time. This will assure you of my availability
and full attention to your concerns.
Emergencies: If you can’t reach me at my office number, call me at home at (503)
873-7919, and I’ll see you as soon as possible.
House Calls: Although I have fully equipped home office with a conference table, computers,
copiers, fax machine, and so forth, I am also prepared to bring my portable computer and printer to your home or workplace
and quickly prepare almost any document required. Night and weekend meeting times are available to provide you with
convenient, timely and completely confidential legal services. This can be a real advantage to clients who work standard
business hours.
Attorney Fees and Costs
My fees are usually billed on an hourly basis. Some projects,
such as simple wills, may be handled on a flat fee basis. If not included in a flat fee, photocopy charges are billed
at a rate of $.15 per page, and long distance telephone charges are billed at a minimum of $1.50. These charges are
made regardless of actual costs to avoid extensive bookkeeping. Payment is due on completion of a project or within
10 days following the billing.
